Overview
Stroke is one of the most common neurological illnesses, affecting thousands of individuals of all ages each year. The consequences of a stroke can range from relatively mild to completely devastating. However, in many cases, strokes are confined to a limited part of the brain by virtue of the network of vasculature in the brain. As such, strokes are often amenable to particular interventions. Through recent advances in neuroplasticity, we are now better equipped to approach the rehabilitation of stroke from a more scientific base, thus leading to more effective treatment. In this presentation, the principles of neuroplasticity will be applied to strokes, outlining how treatment may proceed from a neuroplastic perspective.
